Don Walsh was born in St. John's in 1951 to Monica (Greene) from Point Verde and Charles Walsh. He spent his summers in Placentia and lived there in the 1960s when his father owned the famous Pink Lady in Jersey Side.
Don began his professional music career playing with Jamie Snider and went on to perform and record with a who's who of traditional and folk musicians. In 1976, he co founded the "rock and reel" band Red Island. When the band dissolved in 1980, he was one of the founding members of the folk band Tickle Harbour. Don also played with the Plankerdown Band. He currently plays in the trio Solid Ground with Nadine Hollett and Jon LeDrew.
From 1986 to 2001, Don owned and operated Dadyeen Recording Studio where he produced countless albums by local musicians. He also has close ties to the theatre community as a musician or musical producer for groups such as CODCO, Rising Tide and The Mummers Troupe. And he has worked in television and film production. Don has received critical acclaim and awards for his work in the music industry. He now works at Memorial University's Digital Archive Initiative.
